I Love Devon

Carol McCormack's poem highlights all the elements of Devon that she knows and loves ...

Misty mornings,buzzards dive
Moorland streams rippling by
Sandy beaches, rocky paths,
Ancient Hamlets, remembered crafts.
I Love Devon
Hills and farmland stretch ahead
Wind Turbines twist revolving heads
Clean fresh smells from muddy rain
Dodge the potholes in the lanes.
I Love Devon.
Impatient Traffic waiting in rows
Haldon Hill queues when Devon snows
Trains stand still, Cowley Bridge drowned
Devon Communities rally round.
I Love Devon
Buses no longer visit rural towns
Libraries, Care Homes, Banks closed down.
No masts for people’s mobile phones,
For lonely folk trapped in their homes.
I Love Devon.
County Shows and Village Fairs
Music Festivals, Fun Affairs,
Community reaching out kind hands
Dementia Friends will understand.
I Love Devon
The Devon we love, Historic and cherished
The environment so rich and varied
Our little County, a natural Heaven
I Love Devon….
