Course Description

Employment in the South West is around 78% with the average number of hours worked being 31 per week.  The average part-time wage is around £150 per week (20 hours at the minimum wage).  Many people are in and out of work, some with fixed term contracts, others with zero hours contracts, many with low pay.  People in and out of work with fluctuating work need to know how benefits work with this.  Come and find out so that the people you support can find out too.

This course is for people who provide advice and support to people of working age who are either working or considering work and who need to know how work will affect their entitlement to benefits.  It covers benefits for ‘job seekers’ as well as for people with disabilities who may or may not have limited capability for work.

Course Aims & Objectives

The course will enable participants to:

  • Identify benefits available to people who are in-work
  • Advise on how work affects all benefits, including Universal Credit
  • Enable claimants to make informed decisions in relation to taking work.
