COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course follows the HSE syllabus for Emergency First Aid at Work. It takes place over 1 day, from 0930 to 1700. By the end of the course you will be able to deal confidently and effectively with emergency first aid situations and minor injuries. On completion of the course a certificate is issued which is valid for 3 years.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

The course covers the syllabus laid down by the HSE as follows 

  • understand the role of the first-aider, including reference to:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection; the need for recording incidents and actions; use of available equipment;
  •  assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and  effectively in an emergency;
  •  administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  •  administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  •  administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  •  administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  •  administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  •  provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters

 We also add to this

  • The general recognition of serious illness and medical conditions, the immediate care required and the importance of summoning the correct help without delay

Following the end of the course we have  a "happy half hour" in which we answer any first aid questions you have.

HOW IS THE COURSE DELIVERED?

The course uses a great deal of practical active training, with practice of skills and group activities.

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Anyone who is either a first aider in a workplace where there are less than 25 people or who wants basic training in first aid. If you are a first aider in the workplace where there are more than 25 people and/or your needs assessment has identified a higher level of need then you may need to do the 3 day First Aid at Work course.

IS THERE AN ASSESSMENT?

The course is continually assessed throughout the training. There is no formal or separate assessment.

DO I NEED ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF FIRST AID?

No, this course is suitable for those with no experience or knowledge.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR THE COURSE?

Once your place has been confirmed we will send you a pre-course questionnaire to ensure we meet any needs you have. Please attend the course in clothing that is suitable for practical exercises.

WHO IS THE TRAINER?

The trainer is Jonathan Whiffin who has several years experience training and won an award for his work with a major humanitarian organisation in 2014. He is an active front-line first aider with specialist training and qualifications. He is DBS checked.
