The ‘Connecting Actively to Nature (CAN)’ programme will help over 3,000 inactive people to discover the combined benefits of a more active lifestyle with the psychological benefits that being outdoors in nature brings.

Devon’s Local Nature Partnership has been awarded £500,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England to deliver a new and exciting 5 year programme that will support older people in Devon and Torbay to connect actively to nature.

To inform the project Devon Communities Together are helping to deliver 3 Focus Groups in North Devon and Torridge, in order to discuss with people in later life their relationships with nature, green spaces and what barriers get in the way of them being more active in their local environment.

  • Do you wish you could take more advantage of Green Spaces?
  • Are you between the ages of 55 and 65 living in North Devon?
  • Do you have children and care responsibilities for an older relative or friend?

One focus group is aimed at those people from North Devon who are between the ages of 55 and 70 who may have children and are actively involved in the care of an older relative, may be working or facing a life transition and are unable to get out and be active in green spaces.

If these points relate to you, we would like to invite you to be a part of a focus group discussion exploring how we can help people like yourselves get more active in Nature!

We are also looking for people who are 65 and over, From North Devon or Torridge, who are living alone and find it difficult to get out and socialise with others to become part of a one off focus group looking to explore what you think are the barriers to being more active in Nature, how much of an opportunity you have to visit local green spaces and what you would like to do if you were there.

If you fit the profile or know someone who might like to be involved please call 01392 248 919 or email [email protected]

Dates and locations of Focus groups are to be confirmed, travel expenses can be reimbursed.
