PLEASE NOTE*

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED, NEW DATE TBC.

The Building Better Buddies project aims to train volunteers to encourage and support older men to live more active and fulfilling lives. This is achieved using the concept of the ‘health and wellbeing buddy’ – somebody who can support, organise and promote activities to others.

The programme offers a unique volunteer training package, which you – as a volunteer – will be trained in. This will give you the skills, confidence, support and information to develop your buddy role.

Aims and Objectives

This is peer mentor training, supporting volunteers to:

  • have an understanding of the issues concerning physical activity, healthy eating and positive mental wellbeing for older men
  • have gained skills, knowledge, and expertise to work with older men and their physical and mental wellbeing
  • have gained an understanding and ability to work as a Buddy with older men on these issues.
  • help older people to be more physically active and overcome the barriers to participation
  • aims to establish an informal and social relationship with other older men, which is mutual, non-judgemental and committed, for the purpose of promoting better health
  • involves other older people in health promotion activities
  • helps other older men to move into or step up their activities for healthier living
  • points other older men in the right direction, helping them find appropriate information and to access services
  • is someone other older men can talk to and who’ll understand things from their point of view.
