Devon’s Local Nature Partnership has been awarded £500,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England to deliver an exciting 5 year programme that will support older people in Devon and Torbay to connect actively to nature. Devon Communities Together are delighted to be a partner in this exciting new initiative.
“The ‘Connecting Actively to Nature (CAN)’ programme in Devon will help over 3,000 inactive people to discover the combined benefits of a more active lifestyle with the psychological benefits that being outdoors in nature brings” said Hannah Colston Senior Development Manager at Active Devon who are managing the CAN Programme on behalf of the Devon Local Nature partnership.
We are now recruiting volunteers for the Connecting Actively to Nature project;
The role is flexible and offers many benefits such as volunteer networking events and celebrations, and the opportunity to attend a wide range of training sessions. You will receive a volunteer induction and support from Devon Communities Together as well as the umbrella organisation Active Devon.
The primary role of a CAN volunteer is as an ambassador for activity in nature, signposting and supporting members of their community to connect with activities in nature. There is the opportunity to get involved in many additional ways, for example by attending, helping with, and promoting CAN activities, taking pictures or videos of activities, or blogging about your experience as a CAN volunteer.
To discuss the role of CAN volunteer further please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 01392 248919.
With 122,000 people aged 55+ in Devon and Torbay doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity each week it is a vital, innovative and forward-looking initiative.
