Energy Affordability Support For Individuals

1st December 2021 - 30th April 2022

please note: this project has now finished

Thanks to funding from Western Power Distribution, Devon Communities Together was pleased to be able to provide support to individuals who are struggling with fuel bills and heating their homes this winter.

We understand the huge problems people can face in keeping their homes heated – particularly in rural communities – and want to help keep as many people warm this winter as we can.

What was the project?

The project supported households in Devon communities who are at the greatest risk of fuel poverty as well as those who may not find it easy to access digital support, whether that is due to a lack of skills or equipment. Offering home visits, video calls and telephone support, the team gave practical help tailored to each household by tackling energy related issues. The support offered included:

  • Practical help dealing with energy suppliers and finding the right tariff
  • Checking eligibility for schemes such as the Priority Service Register and the Warm Home Discount
  • Assistance accessing financial support
  • Help understanding the terminology around domestic energy
  • Looking at alternative energy sources/suppliers
  • Improving your energy efficiency
  • And any other questions you may have

As well as providing personalised help with energy bills, we supported people with related issues, such as housing and health challenges, by working with partner organisations to ensure that people received the help they need. You can read about the outcomes in our 2021-2 Impact Reports.
