Energy Affordability Support For Individuals

1st December 2021 - 30th April 2022

Thanks to funding from Western Power Distribution, Devon Communities Together is pleased to be able to provide support to individuals who are struggling with fuel bills and heating their homes this winter.

We understand the huge problems people can face in keeping their homes heated – particularly in rural communities – and want to help keep as many people warm this winter as we can.

What is the project?

The project is supporting households in Devon communities who are at the greatest risk of fuel poverty as well as those who may not find it easy to access digital support, whether that is due to a lack of skills or equipment. Offering home visits, video calls and telephone support, the team will give practical help tailored to each household by tackling energy related issues. The support offered includes:

  • Practical help dealing with energy suppliers and finding the right tariff
  • Checking eligibility for schemes such as the Priority Service Register and the Warm Home Discount
  • Assistance accessing financial support
  • Help understanding the terminology around domestic energy
  • Looking at alternative energy sources/suppliers
  • Improving your energy efficiency
  • And any other questions you may have

As well as providing personalised help with energy bills, we will be supporting people with related issues, such as housing and health challenges, by working with partner organisations to ensure that people receive the help they need.

You can book an individual support session by clicking below and choosing an available time that suits you. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a session outside our normal operating times, please get in touch through the contact information at the bottom of this page - we are used adapting our working hours to best suit individuals in the community.

To help as many households as possible, we are also offering group sessions which are perfect for coffee mornings, village hall events, private functions and more. Head to our Big Energy Saving Network page to learn more or contact us on the information below.

Training for your staff

We are also be providing training to other front-line workers as part of the project. Both the training and the home visits will help to educate and build confidence in individuals to take better control of their situation in future, know where to go for advice, know their rights and be better able to support others.
