DEVON DIAMOND: Andrew Moreman

Our 32nd Devon Diamond is Andrew Moreman, CEO of Young Devon. Young Devon's aim is to help "building quality relationships to help young people thrive".

Andrew says "I've been lucky enough to live in Devon for almost five years now having moved here to take on my current role with Young Devon". Prior to that move Andrew had spent the last thirty years working with children and young people in the both the public and voluntary sector in locations as diverse as Hackney and Melbourne.

"I count myself privileged to work in a charity like Young Devon, it’s chock full of amazing people who are absolutely determined to help vulnerable young people across the county and the work they do makes me proud to work alongside people who are committed to building the kind of good quality, supportive relationships that can make a real difference to lives."

Outside of work Andrew can often be found running around various parts of Devon either for fun, or to prepare for some event that he thought was a good idea at the time! Or Andrew could be trying his hand at baking a new cake or engaged in a full-scale nerf battle around the house with one of his sons (there are three of them, two are much bigger than him, being a brave sort, he says he only challenge the smallest!)

"We've worked alongside DCT for many years now but particularly over the pandemic that relationship has been fantastic and to see how they have worked to bring charities and other organisations together to make sure that everyone has got through the last two years has been a delight – long may it continue!"

Why I love Devon

"There are so many reasons to love Devon, I never tire of being near the sea and love a bit of kayaking along the south coast or surfing along the north. I am fortunate to live between the sea and the moors, our county is one of the loveliest places you could wish for".

"I even like the way that people who have more right than me to the title ‘local’ have that funny approach to scones and cream – did I mention most of my family are from Cornwall?"

NOMINATE YOUR DEVON DIAMONDS

Each week during our 60th anniversary year (until March 2022) we will be sharing a story, profile or memory from one or more of our 'Devon Diamonds'. Devon Communities Together's Devon Diamonds are people who have played a part in our story since 1961. They could be ex (or current!) employees or trustees, people who have achieved amazing things in their own communities, representatives from partner organisations we've worked with over the years, village hall committee members, Councillors, and more ... the list is endless!

We plan to create 60 Devon Diamonds throughout the year! If you know of somebody who would make a great Devon Diamond profile, please get in touch by calling 01392 248919 or emailing info@devoncommunities.org.uk
