Help us decorate our charity Christmas tree!

Published on 21st October 2021

We're thrilled to announce that Devon Communities Together will have a charity Christmas tree in Princesshay, Exeter, this year.

As a community charity, we'd love our tree to be a celebration of Devon's communities, which is where we need your help.

Would you like to create a decoration that represents your community? Perhaps it could be a celebration of your community building, group or organisation? If so, we'd love to include it on our tree for thousands of festive shoppers to see.

There are two options:

1. If you’re feeling crafty you can create one completely from scratch but it does need to be COMPLETELY weatherproof. No paper, bread, pasta or rice decorations or anything else that will be destroyed or dissolved once wet. If laminating card, please punch any holes through the PLASTIC ONLY to help prevent them coming apart in wet weather. They also need to be able to be fastened securely in case of strong winds. Decorations should be around 6-8cm diameter/height. They will need to arrive at our offices in Exeter (see bottom of this email for the address) by 12th November at the latest.

It’s a very loose creative brief but we want everyone’s submissions to be unique!

2. A second option (pictured) is for you to submit either a photo or image (drawing/colouring etc) that represents your community, plus a single sentence about your image. For example: ‘I love film nights at our local village hall’ (picture of village hall) or ‘Volunteering at the foodbank is important for my community’ or ‘My favourite place to relax is walking on Haytor’. These will be printed on double sided discs with the photo on one side and the message on the back, and inserted into clear, round baubles. The discs will be 6cm in diameter. We will be providing the baubles and doing the making - you just need to submit the image and wording to marketing@devoncommunities.org.uk by 10th November.

A team from DCT will be decorating the tree in time for the big switch on, on the 18th November! Find out more about Christmas at Princesshay here: https://princesshay.co.uk/christmas/
