Housing Need Surveys

Devon Communities Together work with the Devon Rural Housing Partnership to produce Housing Need Surveys across Devon.

A Housing Needs Survey is an independent report, collating information on the current housing, circumstances and requirements of a community, providing an objective assessment of its current and future housing needs.

Surveys are delivered to every house in the parish and can be completed on paper or online. The core questions focus on the resident’s current housing circumstances and their views on potential new housing in their area, with an emphasis on affordable housing. We then produce an independent report based on the information the residents of your area provide, identifying the number and type of affordable housing that is required with a detailed analysis of circumstances and any additional related issues or concerns. This information can help a Parish Council, Community Group, Local Authority or other organisation plan for future development, with the aim of ensuring that the right number, size and tenure of homes are built according to the defined local need.

Housing Need Surveys to aid Neighbourhood Planning

One of the most important issues for Parish Councils when preparing a Neighbourhood Plan is future housing development. Devon Communities Together work with the Devon Rural Housing Partnership and Local Authorities to produce Housing Need Surveys for Neighbourhood Planning groups.

These surveys are delivered in the same way as other housing need surveys but can be amended to ask questions more closely related to the local Neighbourhood Plan to ensure that all the correct information is appropriate and directed for this purpose.
